A perfect piece for Ramadan. This piece is a call to gather the community together to break the daily fast, Iftar. The piece was created in Toronto with MABELLEarts, Aga Khan Museum, residents of the Mabelle community and the Gather Round Singers.

Iftari - Gather Round was conceived through a community arts composer residency in collaboration with MABELLEarts, the Arabic Community Centre and Gather Round Singers in Toronto. This project brought communities around the Mabelle Neighbourhood to celebrate Iftar nights, the daily breaking of the fast meals during the Muslim month of Ramadan. The musical material draws on the sounds of call to prayer as well as texts from the community members themselves.
